Hobbyhorsing: Inside the world of Finland’s equestrian craze

( CNN) On an uncharacteristically warm and clear weekend in May, more than 5,000 people descended on Helsinki’s Kaivopuisto Park — one of the Finnish capital’s largest — to take part in the latest craze beginning to sweep the nation.

For those without the time or financial means to take up pony ride, “hobbyhorsing” is providing a fun and quirky alternative.

First introduced to the mainstream by 2017 documentary “Hobbyhorse Revolution” — directed against Finnish filmmaker Selma Vilhunen — the pastime’s popularity is increasing rapidly, including with regard to with young girls.
